Elio Altare
Winemaker Profile | Piedmont, Italy
Elio Altare, born in 1945, took over the family estate in La Morra, Piedmont, in the 1970s. Following a trip to Burgundy, he introduced modern winemaking techniques to the region, which led to conflicts with his father. Today, the winery is run by his daughter, Silvia Altare, while Elio continues to serve as a consultant.
The winery cultivates approximately 11 hectares of vineyards, including prestigious sites such as Arborina, Cannubi, and Cerretta. The primary grape variety is Nebbiolo, used to produce exceptional Barolo wines. Additionally, Barbera and Dolcetto are also grown. Notable wines include Barolo "Arborina" and Barolo "Cannubi."
